Top Reasons to License your Dog:

  • It greatly improves your chances of getting your dog back if it goes missing.
  • It lets people know your dog is up-to-date on its rabies vaccine.
  • It's the LAW!

All dogs living in the Township for ten (10) days or more must be licensed annually during the month of January. Puppies need to be licensed at six (6) months of age. Residents are reminded that dogs must be licensed and a rabies certificate valid through October 31st of the current year is required. Failure to license your dog(s) will result in a court summons and fees. If your dog has passed away or no longer living at your Clinton Township residence, please notify the Township.

Any dog off the premises of the person owning it shall be accompanied by and controlled by a capable person using a standard dog leash. Dogs are allowed within the Township’s parks, but not on any of the playing fields or on any bleachers. As with elsewhere in the Township owners must clean up after their pets. The owner of the animal will be held strictly liable for any violation.

Please Note:
The State of New Jersey requires all dogs to be certified by a licensed veterinarian as immunized against rabies. The intent of this law is for the immunity against rabies to cover the duration of the licensing period, which, is the calendar year. Pet owners are advised to consult their vet if they have any questions concerning vaccination overlap. The owners of a puppy or any dog who has received its first vaccination with a one-year duration need to consult with the vet who administered this inoculation as to the length of the immunity the booster will provide.
